About our school

Rous Public School – Learning, Belonging, Growing Together

Nestled on the scenic Alstonville Plateau, Rous Public School is a vibrant, inclusive learning community with strong ties to the surrounding area. We are proud members of The Southern Cross Community of Small Schools (SCCSS) and work closely with local partners to enrich student learning and community engagement.

With an enrolment of 87 students, our school is small enough for every child to be known and celebrated, yet big enough to offer a rich, diverse educational experience.

Our core priorities include:

  • Personalised, differentiated teaching and learning programs
  • A strong focus on excellence in literacy and numeracy
  • A dynamic and engaging creative arts program
  • Inclusive sporting opportunities

At Rous Public School, students are at the centre of every decision. We are a supportive, connected school family where collaboration, creativity, and community consultation are deeply valued.

Our school grounds are surrounded by native trees and local wildlife, offering a unique and inspiring natural learning environment. Our resident koalas are beloved members of our school community and provide a daily reminder of our special connection to country and nature.

Student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Every child at Rous Public School is known, valued, and cared for. Through our Positive Behaviour for Learning expectations, our students grow into safe, respectful learners—at school and beyond.

Together, we nurture a culture where every child thrives.
